Curley worked with the MoCo Cooking For Good Meetup Group allowing them to use his kitchen and assist them in making a delicious beef-a-roni and salad for about 75 people this past Sunday at his Rockville kitchen.
This group feeds the men at the Rockville Homeless Shelter on Gude Drive the first Sunday of the month. Typically they use a kitchen at someone’s house. There was an overwhelming great response in using a kitchen where there was room to work, as well as having all the pots, pans, and larger commercial equipment, as well as room enough to talk and relax.
Everyone helped out, tasted, and recommended different variations to make a belly warming delicious meal!
“Currently, in Montgomery County as well as neighboring jurisdictions locating commercial kitchens to rent are very hard to find, it took me 3 months to find my current location”, said David “Curley” Cornblatt, Chef and owner of Curley’s Q BBQ and Catering. While many don’t or can’t rent their kitchen, letting groups like this use their kitchen with a supervisor on site makes it very worthwhile to all!
If you have a kitchen, you are willing to share with groups that are looking to cook for the homeless, please email me your contact information and I will forward it to the appropriate people email@example.com
Lastly, there are many restaurants and food trucks that at times have excess food. “The issue that I see is while I would love to donate food, I had no idea where or with whom do I contact”, said Curley. Fortunately through a friend Curley found out that there was a shelter a few miles from his kitchen so he called and they welcomed the donation and he delivered some 90 pounds of meat, bread and side dishes, this past week.
For those who don’t know where to donate Nourish Now will come by and pick up your food at no charge, then distribute it to agencies in need.
Wether you are making food or donating excess food, it is a wonderful way to help those in need. ”You just never know when you may be on the receiving end, and I hope that someone would be there for me if I am in difficult times”, says Curley

Many apartment complexes and office buildings are food deserts. People have to travel a distance or call for the same food delivery, it can get old. Food trucks offer a great culinary treat to tenants and can make your location more attractable for new renters or even increase the value of you condo. By having food trucks on a regular basis, it will create an uplifting energy and give people options that are not otherwise available. How would you like to have the option to have BBQ, fish tacos, burritos, Indian, and more all in a week?
These options are limitless! and with the winter setting in the food trucks need the business, it is a “win – win” for everyone.
Two years ago building owners we concerned about liability, in the past years, companies like JBG, Alexandria Real Estate and several others have realized the risk vs reward is worth taking the chance. To my knowledge, there has not been a issue that put any building owner in financial risk. As trucks carry their own insurance and are regulated very similar to a brick and mortar restaurants, and you can see in the “kitchen” this actually makes food trucks a very safe option.
Other food trucks and I have heard from MANY tenants of business and find that most deli’s and daily lunch spots located in buildings, while giving a a quick option, people find that the quality or diversity is not great.
I have started a new venue helping connect food trucks to food deserts which will have no cost to the buildings and is a great amenity!
Here is how it works:
We do an initial site visit and understand the type of people at the space, number of people and a location where trucks can vend.
We determine based on the population and demographics, an optimal schedule to keep the tenants happy and the trucks profitable.
We then look at paring trucks based on offerings, price and availability.
We develop a marketing strategy and work withthe building management to help create the awareness.
After the first week of operation, we analyze the sales and the acceptance of the tenants, then make adjustments as needed.
The goal is to have the appropriate amount of coverage so that this and profitability so that this will continue for time to come.
If you are a building owner or tenant, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for an evaluation or call 240-257-2333.
There is no cost for this.
Is your office or apartment building in a food desert? We can help! We are currently working with companies like JBG, Alexandria Real Estate and others to help bring food to locations where the options are non-existent, or very limited. We will assess your site, recommend the number and types of trucks, a schedule and even book trucks for you!
If you work at the site or are a property manager, having food trucks is a free way to add value to your location, making it more desirable for tenants , and increasing rent or sale values!
For Property managers: We will even handle your agreements, COI’s and other issues that pertain to your site, as well as give you feedback on what others are doing.
